Isaac Honsinger was born on June 28, 1798 in Alburg, Grand Isle Vermont, the son of Emanuel Honsinger and Maritjen Masten. His twin brother was Abraham who lived 2 years longer than Isaac. Each brother fathered 11 children.

Isaac was married twice. In 1820 he married Margaret Niles and they had 3 children: Abraham (1820-1914), Isaac Jr. (1822-1876) and Margaret (1824-1875).

Margaret Niles died on October 15, 1825 at the age of 23.

In 1826, Isaac married Rebecca Steenburgh and they had 8 children: Henry (1828-1893), Phebe (1831-1872), Amanda (1834-1890), Mary (1836-1840), Lydia (1838-1915), Sarah Elizabeth (1841-1851), Charles Homer (1845-1929), and George (1848-1851).

Rebecca died on September 21, 1875 at the age of 69. Isaac died on December 1, 1880. They are both buried at Alburg Center Cemetery in Alburg Center, Vermont.
