Biography

Isobel (Home) Haldane is a member of Clan Home.

Isobel was born about 1560.

John Haldane, 9th of Gleneagles was the son of John Haldane, 7th of Gleneagles and Elizabeth Lundie. He married, firstly, Isobel Home, daughter of Sir David Home, 5th of Wedderburn and Mariota Johnstone.

1578, June - John Haldane of Gleneagle; who having come to the Earl of Morton, who was then governor, to transact and agree with him about the ward and marriage of his land; Morton answered he had given all right he had to it to Isobel, Wedderburn's sister, and he might go and take her and it together. There were, along with Haldane, his uncles, Richard and Robert, and David Erskine, abbot of Dryburgh. They, without delay, come to Wedderhurn, where they see, converse with, and please the young lady, who had before been known to them by report only; they treat and agree with the brother, and the marriage-day is set. He had resolved that she should be dismissed as honourably as possible. For that purpose, there was a most splendid apparatus and entertainment, which was made up by the bride's direction, and it greatly added to the fame of her prudence, as few had ever seen so grand and genteel a marriage-feast, and all who were present never failed to give it the greatest commendations.

John Haldane of Gleneagles, married to Isabel, daughter of Sir David Home of Wedderburn, ancestor of the Earls of Marchmont. He appears as one of the Lords of the Congregation standing by the Protestant cause. He had a brother James Haldane, killed in the Raid of Stirling, 1585, who is called by Calderwood "brother-german to the Laird of Gleneagles," and was shot by Colonel Stewart's servant as he was laying hands on the Colonel, brother of the Earl of Arran. This John Haldane was succeeded in 1592 by James James Haldane of Gleneagles

Margeret was born in 1560. She passed away in 1637. ^[1]
