P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Cheryl,

I am enjoying wikitree, I joined facebook to take advantage of the larger online community. I am finding the New Member’s tips helpful; most of my questions are more those of the not very tech savvy computer type. Thank you for the Genealogy research tip, I will use it. Learning how to effectively research is a challenge.

Thank you for touching base with me, Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

I am researching the Bradford lineage, and have had considerable success with the MyHeritage app. There is a free 2-week Basic option, but very limited. So I upgraded to Premium, and it is well worth it. My middle name of Bradford comes by way of my father's mother, whose mother was Martha Bradford. Starting with my dad, Donald B. Walter, I have been able to trace the lineage back to 1509. There is a lot of Bradford's to research, so you need to find an app, and then start with one of the names you mentioned. Good luck! Hi William,

Thanks for your input. I will definitely check out the MyHeritage app. I look forward to watching your progress as well. May I ask what part of the country your branch settled in? Besides New England I have found descendents in Indiana, Missouri and Utah.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz and joining the Mayflower Project!

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Thank you David,

I will do my best. TY, for the link to reliable sources; I intend to be caution r/t sources and won’t take on the responsibility to manage a pre-1700 profile until I am confident that I have a handle on creating an accurate and reliable record.

Hi Rebecca

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

Thank you Lothar. I am sure I will have questions. I am anxious to progress from names on a tree to a well sourced genealogical family record.

Have you sreen the Familysearch.org profile for Erza? It lists parents, however I haven't found sources to prove those parents are really Ezra's. But Ezra's son is also named Myron as his father is.

Parents Myron Bradford 1824–1850 • Familysearch ID 2QBT-YM5 Marriage: 01 Jan 1846 Lorain, Ohio, United States

Susannah Eddy 1820–1851 • Familysearch ID 2SX7-966

Ezra's Familysearch link

Good evening Karen.

I had seen that link and was able to contact Lloyd Smith directly. We are cousins, as it turns out our grandmothers were sisters.

Sometime back I had found a note on that site that said David Eddy (1783 -1853), the father of Susannah Eddy (wife of Myron) mentioned his grandson, Ezra Bradford in his will. Just days ago I finally tracked down the probate notification of that will. I was quite excited. Then:

I also found a probate notification for the will of Hiram Bradford mentioning HIS son, Ezra Bradford. Myron had an older brother named Hiram. Hiram’s wife was the sister of Myron’s wife Susannah.

Myron and Susannah died within a year of each other at relatively young ages (mid twenties) and it’s possible that Hiram Bradford (1821 - 1850) and his wife Eunice Eddy (1822 - 1897) took Ezra in at that point.

The 1850 census of Cuyahoga, OH lists one child, female, 3 y/o in the household of Hosea Bradford (Myron’s fa). Myron and Susannah were living in that household in 1850. The child is IDed as Eliza but I suspect that, because of the difficulty in reading the hand written records that Eliza and Ezra are one and the same. Myron died in October of 1850 as did his brother Hiram.

It searching Hiram and Eunice Bradford I find no mention, other than that probate notification, of a child born to them named Ezra. Hiram’s will does mention his other children by name.

I haven’t attached these sources to my tree yet because I want to make sure I do it properly. I suspect that these probate notifications may be the only written, legal record I will find of Ezra. Sadly no one in the my family has a family Bible that might help or knowledge of any church affiliation.

Thank you so much for your note and the link. (I need to learn how to make links.) Rebecca

Welcome Anonymous, and thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point.

Take your time, keep track of sources and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Happy tree climbing

Hello Karen,

Thank you for your welcome. I already have a question. I started my profile as “anonymous”. I now feel more comfortable with the site and would like to add more personal identifying info (ie: first name, birthday). Do I need to add sources when I do that or will a note acknowledging that I am adding personal info suffice?

For the "Explain your changes", just put "Added name and dates". Or "Updated profile".
