Mary was born about 1770. ^{[citation needed]}

Numerous online trees show Mary's birth surname was Holloway and give the date of her marriage to Benjamin Barbee possibly in Fauquier County, Virginia as 28 October 1799.^{[citation needed]} Note that several of their children were born before 1799, so this information might not be correct, or maybe he had a previous wife.

Her husband Benjamin died in 1813. She was listed in the 1820 census living in Liberty, Butler, Ohio. Her household consisted of 1 female 45 and over (Mary), 1 female 16-25, 1 female 10-15, 1 female under 10 and 1 male under 10. Also listed on the same page were the households of Thomas, John and Elias Barbee^[1]
