HOFER, HON. E., editor of the Salem Capital Journal, one of the leading Republican dailies of the state, was born in Iowa in 1854. He was admitted to the bar, but has never practiced, and since 1876 has been in newspaper work. He was Secretary of the Iowa Senate two terms before coming to Oregon in 1889. In 1894 he was elected to the legislature. He has been a frequent member of conventions and league meetings. In 1893-94 he was commander of the Oregon Division, Sons of Veterans.
