Jean Marion Hocking was born on 14th June 1921 in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia. She was the daughter of Boyns Hocking, a dentist, and Florence Taylor. [1]
On 19th January 1942, Jean was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Australian Womens Army Service (AWAS). Her record indicates that she listed her Dad as next-of-kin. [2] Just a month later, her father was killed in action aboard Australian Hospital Ship Manunda during the Japanese bombing of Darwin, on 19th February. The war over, and won, Jean resigned her commission on 6th March 1946. [2]
Jean married Charles Moffatt in 1948 in Victoria. [3]
