Martha was christened on 1 March 1793 at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. She is the daughter of Paul Hird and Barbara Forster.[1]
Her siblings John, the second John, Ellen and Forster all died in infancy or childhood and only her sister Mary married -- although she had 2 daughters, neither of them married.
Martha was a minor (not of full age) when she married William Dawson, a Master Mariner, on February 2, 1814 in Bishopwearmouth, Durham, England and her father Paul Hird was mentioned in the Marriage Bonds document as her natural and lawful father.[2]
Martha died at age 82 on September 5, 1875 in Quebec, Canada and was buried on September 7th in Mount Hermon Cemetery in Quebec City, Quebec (Burial Plot R-86). Cause of death was general decay and she was listed as the widow of the late William Dawson with her religion being Wesleyan. The clergyman overseeing everything was Rev. Henderson.[3][4]
