As an example: Click the edit tab of the profile you are trying to add to, then click the 'add father' link on the right-hand side. A new page will open. Enter the profile id of the father you want to add.
The profile id is at the top of the profile, next to the name you will see an icon of a pair of scissors, click that and it will copy the profile id for you!
