James Hilton was born on the 9th September 1900, in Leigh, Lancashire, England, the son of John Hilton, an educator, and Elizabeth Burch.[1]
James Hilton was born in Leigh, Lancashire, England.
On the 2nd April 1911, the 10-year-old James, at school, was living at Walthamstow, Essex, with his family. Home at the time were his father: John (39), a Schoolmaster, head council; and his mother: Elizabeth (41).[2]
In 1938 he moved to California, where he applied for naturalisation, becoming an American citizen in 1948.
In 1942 he won an Academy Award for his work on the screenplay adaptation of Jan Struther's novel Mrs. Miniver.
James Hilton passed away on the 20th December 1954, in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, United States,[3] and was interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Long Beach.[4] A second memorial for James is placed in Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon, Virginia.
