John Hillen was a Maryland colonist.

No birth record for John Hillen has been found. He was likely born about 1650 in England. He settled in the West River area of Anne Arundel County among other colonists of the Quaker faith.

John Hillen signed hs will on 14 JUL 1682. An abstract follows: I John Hillen of Anne Arundel County being sick & weak . . .

  • the remainder of all my personal estate after my just debts are paid to be equally divided between my dear wife, Johanna Hillen and my dear son and daughter Deborah Hillen into three equal parts such that each person have 1/3 to be made at some convenient time or on the 20th day of ye 10th month called December next by Thomas Hooker, Wm. Richardson, Nathaniel Smith & Benjamin Lawrence whom I leave executors in trust in behalf of my children.
  • if any of my children should die before they come to age viz my son to 18 & my daughter to 16 then their part shall descend to ye survivor.
  • to my wife a gold ring which lies in my purse in my guilded trunk.
  • to my father Thomas Hooker all my leather clothes.
  • to Thomas Hooker Jr. all the remainder of my clothes.
  • to Benjamin Hooker a piece of gold that lies in my trunk.
  • to Jacob Hooker 20 shillings to be delivered to them when they come to age.
  • to Damaris Hooker 20 shillings.
  • to my son Johannes Hillen 300 acres of land lying on the south side of Elk River in a creek called Capt. Johns Creek in Cecil County called Heydowne which formerly belonged to Henry Downs & sold by him to Obadias Hudgins & by him to me.
  • to my son a parcel of land at the head of Thomas Hooker’s line which I bought of my father-in-law Thomas Hooker.
  • to my wife Johanna Hillen the plantation I now live upon and to be my sole executor of my will.
  • Wm. Bryon to have one year of his time which he have to serve omitted.
  • an inventory of my estate be taken by my trustees and entered by them upon Friends books whereby my children’s parts my be known & secured.
