Edwin was a veteran of the Civil War

According to the family story: After fighting in the Civil War Edwin went to work on the farm of Elizabeth Jane McCollough Elliot. Her husband had died (not clear if before or after Edwin arrived) and eventually Edwin and Elizabeth were married.

1850 Census lists age as 7 and with a Dec birthday this would indicate he was born in 1842. 1870 Census lists name as Edward, birthplace as Ohio and birth year as abt 1846. Several descrepancies. Elizabeth’s birth year is also listed as abt 1831. Maybe the ages were confused by the census taker as 24 and 39 rather than 29 and 34.-AEM

There is a Charles hill (b abt 1857) also in the household. Nephew?-AEM
