William served from 1943-46 as a Boatswain's Mate, 1st Class, on the destroyer W.R. Rush in the Atlantic. After he came home, William and Jeannette were married in St. Anthony's Church, Detroit on September 21, 1946. Jeannette's two attendants wore gowns in peach and blue; a reception for the 150 guests was held at the Whittier, then an elegant hotel on East Jefferson. For their honeymoon, they went to Chicago. A son, William, and five daughters, Shirley, Nancy, Judy, Janice and Jacqueline completed the family until seven grandchildren came along. The Hills enjoy the Ballroom Dance classes held at the Center."
