Biography

Richard Hill was born in 1807 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England to James Hill and Sarah - he was christened on 28 Apr 1807 at Westgate Baptist in Bradford.^[1]

Richard Hill (residing in King Halifax, a cross woolsorter) and Mary Edwards (residing in St John Halifax) were married by licence on 24 Mar 1831 in St John, Halifax, Yorkshire.^[2]

Richard and Mary had three sons:

1. John Edwards Hill (1832-1901)
2. James Hill (1834-1835)
3. George Hill (1836-1837)

Richard's wife passed away in 1837.

Richard Hill married Sarah Ramsden on 4 Apr 1838 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire.^[3] The marriage was registered in Huddersfield in the second quarter of the year.^[4]

Richard and Sarah had one son:

1. Rowland Hill (1840-)

In 1841 Richard Hill (age 30-34, Woolstapler) lived at 20 Wards End in Halifax with his wife Sarah (25-29), son Rowland (1), and in-law Betsy Ramsden (15-19).^[5]

In 1851 Richard Hill (age 43, Woolstapler) lived at 7 Bedford Street in Halifax with his wife Sarah (40) and son Rowland (10, Scholar).^[6]
