Served as Coroner in southwest London and Surrey in the 1880s-1890s where he was known as being especially thorough in investigating children's deaths, regularly opening inquests, earning him the nickname of "The Children's Coroner". He was active in bringing awareness to suffocation by "overlying" in shared beds as a cause of death, especially where parental intoxication was involved.
Married c. Oct.-Dec. 1883 to "the only daughter of a popular surgeon of Belgravia"[1].
