Carl and his family arrived in New York on June 3, 1872 on the ship Batavia.

Carl and his family are listed on the 1880 St. Louis, Missouri census in ED 415, sheet 5, line 42. They are living at 47 Natural Bridge Road, near Sacramento Avenue and Louisa Avenue.

The St. Louis City Death Records list an infant of Charles and Louise who died October 10, 1887. The address given is 3735 Sullivan.

The family is listed on the 1900 St. Louis, Missouri census in ED 296, sheet 6. Charles says he has been married for 32 years, with 11 children born, but only 5 still living. He also indicates he is a naturalized citizen. They are living in the 19th ward. He lists his year of immigration as 1871.

On the 1910 census, Charles indicated he immigrated in 1880. This is obviously incorrect - could it be the year he was naturalized? Charles is living at 2340 Oriole Avenue in the 27th ward. Charles lists his occupation as a retired rope maker. His son Henry is living with him. Also living with Charles is his daughter Lulu and her family.

Carl was known as Charles. His obituary was in the St. Louis Post Dispatch on February 10, 1916 on page 18. At the time of his death he lived at 2340 Oriole Avenue. He is buried at St. Johns Cemetery. The funeral director was William Paschedag.

His occupation was given as rope maker.
