NOTE

During the Civil War, Richard was a Private in the 12th Alabama Infantry, Company E, for the Confederate States of America. He was a prisoner of war of the Army of the Potomac and appeared on a Parole of Prisoners of War on 03 Oct 1862. He had been wounded on 17 Sep 1862, as he was admitted to the hospital in Frederick, Maryland on 26 Sep 1862 with an amputated left leg according to his military file. He died there, on 11 Oct 1862, from this injury and subsequent amputation as stated in the record of death and interment. He was buried in Frederick County, Maryland, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, area M, grave number 113 on 13th of Oct 1862. His wife, Elizabeth, continued to collect his pension; and is listed as living in Rockford, Alabama.
