William Hessey son age 13 occupation farm servant, born Anston Yorks. Mary daut age 11, scholar, born Anston Yorks. Fanny daut age 8 scholar, born Worksop. Susanna daut age 6, born Worksop. John son age 4 scholar, born Worksop. Thomas son age 2 born Worksop.
1858 The Hessey family emigrated from England to Australia aboard the "Melbourne".
1859 - Jan 15, death of mother Jane Kirton in Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia.
1861 - John's father Joseph remarried.
1862 - The Hessey family emigrated from Victoria Australia to Canterbury New Zealand aboard the"Omeo".
1874 - Jan 19, marriage of John Hessey to Emma Bridget Barrett at the Hamilton Hotel, Cobden, Grey District, West Coast, New Zealand.

John Hessey established a farm which he named "Sherwood" at 141 Upper Plain Road, Masterton, New Zealand, where he lived with his wife Emma and Jane & Kate Hessey his 2 nieces whom he adopted.

1878 About this time John adopted his nieces Jane and Kate Hessey, the daughters of his brother William John Hessey snr.
1888 - Marriage of adopted daughter Jane.
1891 - John purchased stallion draught horse 'Nil Desperandum' described as one of the best sires in the district for 400 pounds. Paperspast - Evening Post 2Nov1891.
1892 Nov 5 - John Hessey's 3yr old colt Meli came 3rd in race at Melbourne Australia. [1]
1893 - Draught filly "Countess" won at Wairarapa & East Coast Agricultural and Pastoral show. Medal uploaded to images
1895 - Nov 14, Fire at Upper Plain. Barn, stables, and sundry outbuildings were totally destroyed by fire. John was absent in the south, but his brother Frank Hessey-64 (who had some difficultly rescuing stallion Nil Desperandum) was there as was nephew John Stubbings Hessey Hessey-59 who lived on the farm at that time. 1898 - Marriage of adopted daughter Kate.
1901 - May 2, Paperspast Evening Post - Wairarapa News - "Mr John Hessey yesterday completed the sale of his farm to Mr DJ Cameron. The price paid was 5,300 pounds, or 32 pounds per acre".
1901 - He built "Hessey House" at 21 Worksop Road, Masterton, where he lived with wife Emma, and after her death with 2nd wife Constance.

1913 - Mar 22, Caledonian Society made a presentation to John Hessey, and wished Mr & Mrs Hessey a pleasant voyage, on their proposed motoring tour through England & Europe, then to Italy where they will stay with Mrs Hessey's sister at Rezzola.
