Biography

Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Karl (Louis) was born in 1837. He was the eldest son of Prince Charles (Karl) of Hesse and by Rhein and Princess Elisabeth of Prussia. He married Princess Alice, a daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, in 1862. He became the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine in 1877. He passed away in 1892. He was great-grandfather of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Of Hesse-8 and Hesse-Darmstadt-3 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person, Hesse-Darmstadt is the best LNAB of the two, though should probably be Hessen-Darmstadt.

Profile Of_Hesse-8 should be merged with this profile. It is the same person. Princess Alice had only one husband. They had seven children. I'm a Victoria aficionado and if I didn't have another 1000 profiles to clean up, I'd help with these Victoria descendents.
