Biography

David Wesley Heron was born in 1936 to Helen Mae Gleason and Wesley Molyneaux Heron in the Hamlet of East Leon, Town of Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York. In 1940 David was residing in the Town of Leon, Cattaraugus, New York with his parents and sister on their dairy farm. Most of his childhood (1943-1954) was spent on the family dairy farm in the Town of New Albion, Cattaraugus County, New York.

He graduated in 1954 from Cattaraugus Central School with a dual major in Math and Agricultural Science. David served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1955-1958 and was stationed in Kassel, Germany for 26 months. He married soon after enlistment, his wife joined him in Germany and they had a daughter while stationed there. After his military service, he purchased the Heron family farm and during the farming years welcomed another daughter and two sons.

Later David started another career in the petroleum industry which spanned a period over 35 years and included several transfers to various New York State communities as well as Virginia. In 1984, with the children grown, he and his wife moved to Williamsburg, Virginia. He retired in 1999.
