Biography
William was born in 1830. He was the son of Benjamin Herndon and Jane Shaw. He passed away about 1878.
According to the census records of 1850 and 1860 he was a brickmason by trade. The 1870 census suggests he worked in a plow factory.

(1850 Census of District 4, Fayette County, Tennessee.) William aged 20 lived with his father Benjamin Herndon aged 46 and his siblings.[1]
(1860 Census for La Grange, Fayette County, Tennessee.) William aged 30, a brickmason lived with his wife M. A. aged 26 and unknown named Thomas Power aged 20.[2]
(1870 Census for La Grange, Fayette County, Tennessee.) William aged 40 lived with his wife Mary aged 37 and two children named Callie Lee aged 12 and Sallie Harris aged 11.[3]
Marriage
He married Martha Howard on December 5, 1856 in Fayette County, Tennessee.[4]
Death
He is buried in the La Grange Cemetery in La Grange, Fayette County, Tennessee.[5]
