George, son of Thomas Hendy and Mary Ann, was baptised 7 October 1866 in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, England. ^[1] His mother's maiden name was Hiscocks. ^[2]

No census can be found for the family but in 1881 Mary and the children were living with Worthy Buckland' and he described them as his children. No evidence has been found that the couple ever married. ^[3] Worthy is only 12 years older than eldest 'son' George. However, Mary his 'wife' was born in 1843 (she was 9 years older than Worthy).

In 1884 George married Lydia Fouracres at Newport, Monmouthshire. ^[4]

In 1911 George was a General Labourer (Carpenter) for the Council. The couple had been married for 28 years and had 10 children, all still living. 8 children lived in the household, ranging in age from 20 to 4. ^[5]

In 1939 George was listed as Blind. He was widowed and living with son William Charles in Newport. William Charles was a labourer, unemployed. 3 Hendy families were listed on that page of the Register. ^[6]

George died at the age of 78 in 1942. His death was registered in Newport. ^[7]
