Biography
John Hemming was born in 1760. He passed away in 1825. He married Martha Smithers at St Saviours Southwark 1787. They baptised nine children at the Maze Pond Baptist Church Southwark. John was a linen draper of Borough High Street Southwark, and also a scotch factor. He was active with other members of his wife's family in religious and political dissent organisations.
His grandson, Christopher Dunkin (1812-81), son of Martha (Hemming) Dunkin was a member of the Canadian Parliament and prominent in the debate leading up to and after Confederation in 1867.[1]
