Here are our style rules for quoting text on profiles.

Short Quotations

For short quotations, under 35-40 words or two-three sentences, use double quotation marks, "like these."

Italics, single quotation marks, and other styles are not recommended for quotations in WikiTree profiles.

Long Quotations

For extended quotations, over 35-40 words or two-three sentences, do a block quotation without quotation marks.

Start a new line and surround the quoted text with
and
. For example:

John wrote in his diary:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

Whether the quote is short or long, always cite your source and be wary of copying text.
