Katherine Anderson Helm was born on 7 Sep 1876 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States, daughter of James Pendleton Helm and Pattie Anderson (Kennedy) Helm.^[1]

In the 1880 census Kate A. Helm (3) was the daughter of J. P. Helm (30, Lawyer) in Louisville, Jefferson County.^[2] She later attended Miss Semple's private school for girls in Louisville, Kentucky.^[3]

Katharine A. Helm married Sam'l H. Halley on 16 November 1898 in Jefferson County.^[4][5][6] Their children included:

• Pattie Helm Halley (1905)
• Ann Hampton Halley (1907)
• Samuel Hampton Halley (1914)

In the 1900 census Katharine H. Halley (24) was the married daughter-in-law of Henry S. Halley in Magisterial District 5, Scott County, Kentucky with her husband Samuel (28, physician) and son James H. (9 mos.). She was listed as married for two years, and the mother of one child with one living.^[7]

In the 1910 census Catherine H. Holley (33) was the wife of Samuel H. Holley (38, farmer) in Magisterial District 8, Fayette County, Kentucky. Catherine was listed as the mother of five children with three living, and three children were in the home.^[8]

In the 1920 census Katherine Helm Halley (43) was the wife of Dr. Samuel Hampton Halley (48, farmer) in Fayette County.^[9]

In the 1930 census Katharine Halley (51) was the wife of Sam Halley (56, tobacco warehouse) in District 8, Fayette County.^[10] In 1933, Katharine was the heroine of a strange extortion plot. After receiving a demand for $5000 accompanied with a threat to her life and the life of her son, Katharine contacted the police and cooperated with them to catch the extortionist.^[11]

Katherine A. H. Halley's husband Dr. Samuel H. Halley died in 1933 in Fayette, Kentucky.^[12] Katharine has not been found in the 1940 census records.

In the 1950 census Katherine H. Halley (73) was the widowed head of household in Lexington, Fayette County.^[13]

Throughout her life, Katharine served her community, her state and her nation through her commitment to charitable organizations promoting history, education, equity and access to resources.^[3][14][15]

• She also served with the Juvenile Court Board, the Associated Charities, the Playgrounds Commission, the Civic League, and the Community Service League.

Katherine died on 8 Jul 1963 in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky aged 86.^[1] She was buried in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky.^[16]
