Biography

Francis was born in 1858 on St. Thomas Island in the Danish West Indies. He was the fourth child of six children of Carl Heise and Amory Reed. His father Carl had a trading business operating from St. Thomas Island and later from Hamburg, Germany. Francis with his family returned to Hamburg in 1861.

In 1886 he became a partner in his father's Hamburg business, Carl Geo. Heise. His older brother, George Amory was already a partner along with Hugo Brandt. ^[1][2]

In 1889, when he was 30, Francis married Helene Kaemmerer who was 19. Their only child Carl Georg Heise was born the next year.

Francis passed away on Christmas day in 1899 at the age of 41. At this time his son Carl Georg Heise was 9 years old.

Carl Georg Heise said in 1960:
I had hardly known my father who died early, so my development was mostly influenced by my mother until I was 67. These years of my life were accompanied and determined by her strict character model. From the paternal side, comes my sense of humour and a certain sense of the dangers of lifestyle, from the maternal side an ethical drive and a feeling for religious values.
