Obituary

Obituary. Mrs. J. Vidler.

Mrs. Jane Vidler (73), wife of Mr. F. A. Vidler, who died at Chillingham on Thursday night, was one of the pioneer women of the North Arm. In the early days of settlement in that district Mrs. Vidler did great service in the homes of the settlers in carrying out nursing duties, in which she was particularly efficient. She always obeyed a summons to a sick bedside, and her gratuitous services often entailed such feats as wading through swollen creeks, waist-high, en route to her destination. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Haydon, she was born at Junee and was married to Mr. Frederick Ashley Vidler at Queanbeyan 55 years ago. With her husband and family, Mrs. Vidler came to the North Coast about 35 years ago, settling for a few years at Dulguigan prior to moving to Chillingham, where the family were amongst the early settlers. Mrs. Vidler is survived by her husband and two sons and two daughters. Sons are Messrs. A. H. Vidler (Chillingham), who served with the A.I.F., and W. O. Vidler (Zara). Daughters are Mrs. J. Shoobridge (Numinbah) and Miss Jane Vidler (Chillingham). One son, Frank, was killed in the Great War. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon in the Methodist portion of the new cemetery, Old Lismore Road. Rev. J. Wesley Barrett officiated. Pali-bearers at the church and the graveside were Messrs. A. H. Vidler, W. O. Vidler, C. Shoobridge, F. Dawes, P. Todd and Goodwin [4].
