Biography

John Carleton Hatt ( born September 18, 1916, at Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. - , married on July 4, 1947, at Fredericton, to Willy Klein ( born February 25th, 1924, at Amsterdam, Holland - , daughter of Cornelia ( Eschweiler ) and Cornelis Klein of Bussum, Holland. During World War Two, John C. Hatt served in the Royal Canadian Artillery, alongside his brother, in the 104th Anti-Tank Battery, 7th Anti-Tank Regiment, First Canadian Corp.. After five years of active service in Canada, Great Britain, Africa, Italy and Northwest Europe he returned to Fredericton, receiving his discharge from the armed forces in January, 1946, with the rank of sergeant. The day after the conflict ceased in the Netherlands, the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment moved through the enemy forward positions and billeted in the Town of Bussum, Holland. At the celebration that followed J. Hatt met his future wife, Willy Klein. She came to Canada in June, 1947. After return to civilian life John Hatt was employed by the New Brunswick Department of Lands and Mines, in the Forest Branch as an Inventory Officer. After retirement in 1977 from Goverment service, he was employed for the next twelve years with the law firm of Hoyt, Mockler, Allen and Dixon in Fredericton, as a land title researcher.[1][2] John was a respected Genealogist. He did extensive research of the Estey family in New Brunswick, as well as other histories of New Brunswick families. Being a member of the Towne Family association he also added to the Towne research.

What a great guy! I am tracing all the descendants of John Pickard b 1623 on Geni. John is a direct descendant. You can follow his line all the way back to John there. We have also traced the Pickard family ancestors (all of them we could find) back much further. So he’s also descended from Attila the Hun, Lady Godiva, and Geoffrey the Incompetent, whoever he was. Have fun!
