Biography

Leona (Hathaway) Miller has English ancestors.

Leona's parents, Robert and Beatrice (Furge) Hathaway, died in the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 just after her birth. She was raised by Clint and Della (Hathaway) Sherar. Della was her birth father's sister who would have been an aunt to Leona.

My aunt told me that she considered herself "little girl lost" until she married my Uncle Carlton and began a family of her own. She finally felt she truly belonged.

The census record of 1930 does say that Leona was the adopted daughter of Phintlen Shearer but no legal adoption ever took place. Leona was always a Hathaway, never a Shearer.
