Biography

Possible parents: This William Haskell may have inherited the property from Robert Hascoll, a hayward, and it is possible that Robert is the son of Thomas Huckyll (d. 1496) and Edith Huckyll (d. 1542) of West Compton, Dorset, England.^[1]

The Haskell Family Association has accepted the first four generations of this family as:^[1]

1. William Hascall ( - bef.1514);
2. William Hascall (bef.1514- ) m.c.1539 Joan Foyle;
3. William Hascall Jr. (c.1540-1575) m.c.1564 Elizabeth Rake;
4. William Haskell 1575-1630 m.1611 Elinor Foule, parents of 3 brothers who established the Haskell family in America: Roger (1613-1667); Mark (1621-1667); William (1618-1693).

"In 1514 [“regnal year 20 Apr 5 Henry 8”] the name William Hascall appears when his copyhold for a messuage [i.e., a dwelling with outbuildings] in Fontmell Magna is given to his son, “John Haskall alias Hoper” [Hooper?] (Dorset Record Office D54/M70). Since a dwelling would have devolved to heirs at the death of the tenant, William would have died before 20 April 1514."^[1]
