Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same ancestors. My family tree is private but I want to collaborate on deep ancestors or historical figures.
I have a keen interest in knowing more about my ancestors and their lives. I am interested in American history in general, and find it fascinating to connect my ancestors to the times and conditions in which they lived. I am also interested in using DNA to confirm and extend my knowledge of my family tree. I certainly welcome inquiries from relatives.

Biography

Greg Harris was fortunate to inherit the Family Bible of his Great Great Grandfather Joseph Harris which listed birth and death information on his parents, spouse, and children. It also included a handwritten narrative regarding his service during the Civil war. This is what piqued my interest in family history and genealogy, just as it had for my father years ago.

My Father's ancestors go back many years in America to the revolutionary war and colonial America past. In contrast, my mothers ancestors were relatively recent immigrants to America.

I have been active in building my family tree since about 2010. I am interested in the use of DNA to help further expand my knowledge of my family tree. I am interested in communicating with cousins or others who are pursuing information about shared ancestors.

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.

Since you have started following a DNA tag, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match. You may find that you have an acceptable match with some of them.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".

Please sign our Honor Code, and happy hunting!

Hi GS,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

Maureen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Maureen. Obviously I am new to this so I will have lots of questions. I tried to add information on my parents in the space on my profile page, but I think it is telling me that I need to upgrade to a family member status in order to create new profiles for each of them in order to proceed. Is that correct? Thanks.

Hi GS,

Maureen isn't on duty right now. Yes, you need to upgrade to a family member in order add people.
