Biography

John Achilles Harris, Private, 19th Louisiana Infantry Regiment, Company D.

Enlisted December 11, 1861, Camp Moore, Louisiana. Present on Rolls to February, 1863. Roll for July and August 1863, Absent, left Hospital, Meridian, August 25, order General Adams. Roll for September and October 1863, Present. Roll for November and December 1863, Furloughed from Hospital, (La Grange) for 45 days, De Soto, Mississippi, December 1, 1863. Rolls from January to April 30, 1864, Present. Roll for May to August 31, 1864, Killed in action near Atlanta, Georgia, July 28, 1864.^[1][2]

Son of Jonathan Harris and Piety Bunn Gandy. Husband of Rebecca Stringfellow.^[3] John passed away in 1864. Final resting place in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.^[4]
