Mike Harris was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario from 1990 to 2002 and the province's 22nd Premier.
Born in 1945 in Toronto, he was the son of Sidney Harris and Hope Robinson. He grew up in North Bay, where his father operated a fishing camp. Harris worked as a ski instructor, public school teacher and golf course manager before entering provincial politics in 1981. As premier, he was known for his "Common Sense Revolution" program, which lowered taxes; cut funding to health care, social services, education and major urban infrastructure projects; split up Ontario Hydro; and merged municipalities.
After leaving politics in 2002, he served as an advisor at the law firm Goodmans LLP until 2010.
In 2020 he was made a member of the Order of Canada.
