Hollis registered for the World War II draft when he was 38, registering in Throckmorton, Texas on February 16, 1942.[3] He stated that he lived in Throckmorton and that he worked with his father; Hollis was described as 5'5" tall and 180 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He enlisted in the United States Army, enlisting at Abilene, Texas on July 14, 1942.[4]
After the war, Hollis returned to Texas, residing together with his widowed mother in Throckmorton.[5] Hollis Harrington died of acute heart failure at the age of 52, passing away at Wichita Falls State Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas.[6] He is buried with his family at Throckmorton Cemetery.[7]
