Biography

Tarquinia (Harper) Auter is a part of US Black heritage.

Ellen Tarquinia Harper was born in Oct 1879 in Racine, Racine County, Wisconsin in the United States of America. She was the daughter of Cassius Harper and Ida Goines.^[1][2]She lived in Racine early in her life,^[3] then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to live with her aunt Mary T (Goines) Gray to take advantage of better educational opportunities there. By 1900, her whole family was living in Minneapolis.^[1] In 1903, she began running the St. James Kindergarten in Minneapolis.^[4] She later worked as the principal of a kindergarten in Brooklyn, New York.^[1]

Tarquinia married John R Auter on 25 Aug 1908 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.^[5] They lived in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.^[1]

Tarquinia died on 2 Nov 1909 in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.^[6] Her obituary suggests she died in childbirth.^[1]
