He married Ruth Dryden on 7 Sep 1892 in Troy, Missouri, by Squire J H Dryden.[7] By 1900, they had moved to Stephenville in Erath Co, Texas, where they lived for many years, raising their family of three: Joe, Dryden, and Bernice born 7 years apart. He worked as a rural mail carrier.[3][4][5]
Jim and Ruth grew apart and were ultimately divorced.[8] He passed away at his home in Phillips, Texas, on 19 Aug 1949 and was buried in the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.[9]
