James was born in 1919. He enlisted on 13 Aug 1940 and was allotted to the 2/29 Battalion AIF. He reached the rank of Sergeant. He was captured at the fall of Singapore and held in Changi as a prisoner of war of the Japanese. He survived and returned to Australia. He discharged on 11 Dec 1945.
Jim was elected Councillor for Strathdownie in the Central Riding of Glenelg Shire Council in 1952 and served for approximately 30 years, for which he was awarded Member of the British Empire 31 Dec 1980.
He passed away in 1985.
