Biography

Charlotte (Hand) Keilon is a part of US Black heritage.

Charlotte Hand was born about 1 Dec 1869 in Pender County, North Carolina in the United States of America. She was the daughter of Anthony Hand and Clara Black.^[1]

In 1892, Charlotte had a son Dawson Jordan (1892-1977) with Richard "Dick" Jordan.^[2]

In the 1900 census Charlotte (age 30) was the single sister of Henry in Holly Township, Pender County, North Carolina. Also present was her child Dawson and her mother Clara.^[3] Charlotte’s other brother Stewart lived next to them in 1900, and in 1910 Charlotte and her son Dawson lived with him.^[4] Also next door was the Stuart Hand (27) family, and the Oliver Hand (37) family. Possibly these were Henry and/or Charlotte's brothers.

Charlotte married Isaac Keilon on 9 May 1913.^[5] By 1920, Charlotte was widowed and living with her son Dawson.^[6]

Charlotte died on 24 May 1920 in Holly Township, Pender County, North Carolina.^[1]

• 1880 census: The following census record is Charlotte's family in 1880. There is a 12 year old Charles Hand in the family that seems likely to be Charlotte, but erroneously recorded as a male. No further records for this Charles Hand have been found.
