Richard Clare Hanchett was born about 1884 in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England, son of Clara (Tooley) Hanchett and Richard Hanchett.

He was married to Jessie Alice Martin. Their son was:

Richard died in 1959 in Camperdown, Victoria, aged 75 years.^[2] His remains were buried at Camperdown Cemetery.^[3]
