Thank you for your message reminding me that I am, at present, a member of the Scotland Project. It also reminds me that I have done very little to support the project these last 12 months. I am very sorry that this is the case.
My intention had been to explore Scandinavian-Scottish ancestry with the rather selfish motive that there are some ancestors of mine called or descended from Hamiltons of Innerwick, from who I also descend. I confess that it has not been more than an idea. I have found very little time to do more than keep my wikitree participation ticking over with the odd contribution. I'd still like to get involved in the proposed research. I just need more time in life.
If you and others on the Scotland Project think that my place in it is hardly deserved and want me to leave, I'd not blame you. If you would let me hang on for at another year, I'll try to find time to get going on the Scand/Scot links. Over to you.
I think the Scotland Project is an essenrtial part of the english-speaking domain of wikitree. It's important to others as well - the Scandinavian for example! I'm not much into tartans or clans except where they and other emblematic features of so-called Scottishness are important historically. But then I'm not a highlander....
I'll comply with your jusdgement and wishes and wish you yourself every success with your genealogical endeavours.
With all good wishes
Tom Hamilton-Baillie
I see no need for you to leave the Scotland Project as you've been contributing consistently to our shared ancestors. I'm like you - not a highlander - and I'm not particularly into clans or tartans either.
Have you come across the SSNE database (The Scotland, Scandinavia and Northern European Biographical Database) in your research? It's hosted by the University of St Andrews and consists of "information relating to c.8000 individuals from Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales who migrated to or worked in Denmark-Norway, Sweden (inc. Finland), and the Baltic countries between 1580 and 1707"
All the best Sheena
It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:
•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future
You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.
On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!
Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator
This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.
In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.
We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:
We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.
Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!
Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders
May I suggest a research theme? The conections between Scotland and Scandinavia are extensive and reach back at least as far as the ordinary wikitreer would want to go. We have viking ancestors, Norwegian queens and princesses, merchants, seamen, religious divines and soldiers who crossed the North Sea in both directions over many centuries. If we started with a limited time period; a century say, might members of the Scotland Project and perhaps others from there, or with their own genealogical interests in Scandinavia be interested in taking the idea further?
Best wishes,
Tom H-B
Thank you for your message. I have been busy writing a short family history of some of my Scottish ancestors recently. I find Wikitree quite useful and, in addition, I've updated some of the profiles which I manage in the light of my research. However, this is all personal stuff and not particularly helpful for others in the Project.
There is one issue which is clearly of interest more generally to the Scots project group and that is work on pre-1500 profiles, particularly Baillie family ones. I am not pre-1500 qualified and, having little latin and less time to research, especially as records are mostly in Scotland and I am not (sadly) I don't want to try for pre-1500 qualification. But I do find that there are some glaring errors, some of which I have commented on in general, not via the Scotland project. I note that my comments have in some cases been taken up.
I cannot give you feedback on the Google Group as I'm not a user. Perhaps I should be. I have looked at Discord, but I do not find it very helpful, interesting or with what I would call the right 'tone'. Maybe I'm missing something.
I have plans, though they are likely to be very slow burn, to look at origins of families from Scotland settled in the Baltic region from 1700 onwards. There are quite a number in Sweden and on the opposite Baltic coast in what are now Poland and the Baltic States.
I hope this helps.
It’s time for a Project check-in!
Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.
What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?
This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.
We'd love to have you join the Twisted Thistles in the upcoming Connect-a-thon the weekend of July 17 - July 20. If you'd like to join us and help to develop our ever-expanding Scottish tree, please register on the G2G post here and be sure to mention you'd like to be on the Twisted Thistles team for Scotland.
We also have our team Chat page posted here.
Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.
It looks like the England Project would be a good fit based your connections in the WikiTree. Review the project page to learn how to collaborate with the project members.
Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.
You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions!
Thanks, WikiMesssenger Cindy
You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.
There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.
Questions?, Just ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

Thank you for your reply. When all of us started on WikiTree, it was a bit of a steep learning curve.
The tutorials are part of the process we have in place at WikiTree to help Volunteers get used to how we're building our collaborative tree. You will receive (2) more messages about the tour stops, about once a week, but there's no requirement to do anything with them.
Feel free to explore at your own pace, the links will always be in the comments on the right side of your profile when you're ready for them.
By the way, the messages are from real people and all of us will be glad to answer questions.
...Enjoy adding your twigs and branches to the large tree.
Mary, WikiTree Messenger
You have been here for a while now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.
You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.
Have questions? We want to help! Click the name above any of your comments, then ask in the comment section of that volunteer's page.

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!
This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.
Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!
Please let me know if you have questions. :-)

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.
Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.
Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.
You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the Do you have any heroic volunteers in your branch?
Welcome! Bill D :-D
Welcome to WikiTree. By now you should have received an email with helpful links to get you started on adding your family to ours. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team! What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research youd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, youll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests. When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership. Enjoy the experience,
Bill D :-D
