Biography

James was born not later than 1466, being of age when his father, Archibald, Master of Haliburton and grandfather George, 3rd Lord Dirletoun probably fell together at the Battle of Sauchie on June 11, 1488. He was the son of Archibald Halyburton and Helen Schaw. He passed away unmarried and was succeeded by his uncle to the Lordship.[1]

Research Notes

Note Douglas's 1764 edition of The Peerage of Scotland styled James as 5th Lord Haliburton, counting the creation from Walter Halyburton. The 1907 edition of The Scots' Peerage counts the creation of the title from c.1450 and styled John Halyburton, the son of Walter as 1st Lord Halyburton.
