John Hallet immigrated to New England by 1639.[1]
John Hallett of Scituate, Massachusetts, was the father of Ann (Hallett) Curtis, wife of Richard Curtis.
He made his will on 30 August 1669.[2] The will listed as heirs his wife Anne, his grandchildren Hannah, John, Thomas, Mary, Martha, Elizabeth, and Deborah Curtice, and his son-in-law Richard Curtice.[3][4][5]
An inventory of the goods and chattels of John Hallett late of the town of Scituate in the jurisdiction of New Plymouth in New England who deceased the 12 day of December last past, taken this seventh day of January 1674". Anna the widow gave oath on the inventory on 12 May 1675.[5]
"John Hallett, Planter, (Early written Hollet.) was one of the Conihassett partners, 1646, His house stood at the harbour, near where stands that of Jesse Dunbar, Esq. perhaps a little south-east. In 1691, 'Capt. Stephen Otis's new house' is mentioned, which is now Young's tavern and Post-office), and as bounded to John Hollet's house lot on the north. He was an extensive landholder. Hollet's island, near 'the stepping stones,' now retains his name. He was in Scituate, or rather had lands assigned to his right, in 1668. He was probably at Yarmouth in 1650, in which year his son John was there born."[6]
Great Migration Directory entry:' Hallett, John: Unknown; 1639; Scituate [PCR 2:16, 102, 8:183; ScitTR 1:237; MD 34:113-14].
Born in Thorncombe, Devonshire in the early 17th century, in about 1603, John Hallet emigrated by 1639.[7]
Marriage
He married Anne Tucker of Thorncombe, in St Mary's, Thorncombe on May 6, 1629.[8]
Before 1640, John and Anne Hallet were mentioned in Court of Chancery proceedings regarding the personal estate of one William Tucker of Thorncombe, (then in) Devon. [9] Note: This suit seems to date to 1641, not before 1640, so it appears that in addition to the information that Ann added in the comments, this is probably a different person than the immigrant. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C3810294 Cole-12288 19:16, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
It looks like his proposed origins in Dorset stem from an assumption that he was the brother of Andrew Hallett Jr. (abt.1607-abt.1684) who is known to be of Symondsbury. Not sure that relationship is proven. See Comments Cole-12288 14:17, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

But in 1844, all of that changed as the village was incredibly transferred from Devon into Dorset. https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/thorncombe-tiny-village-stolen-devon-4585005

The Thorncombe register is in a poor state and there may be another John Hallet there . I’ll have. Look for a Tucker will.

Edit to add: I think the identification seems to center around the idea he is the brother of Andrew Hallett Jr. (abt.1607-abt.1684) who is known to be of Dorset.
