Falling coal slab kills two miners
BRISBANE, Friday.—Two miners were killed this afternoon when a three-tonne slab of coal fell on them in the Southern Cross No 9 mine near Ipswich, 40 km from Brisbane.
The men, Alan Hall, 43 and Alan Bryant, 48, both of Ipswich, were working near a machine on the coalface when the slab fell away from the side of the tunnel.
Other men working near them did not hear the fall because of the noise of the machine.
