What we know thus far about John Henry Haley is that he was born in 1845 to William and Eliza (Price) Haley in Missouri. He married Maria(h) Cotton, a young woman from a neighboring family in Osage County, (even though her family had moved away to Gasconade County, Missouri sometime between 1860 and 1868 - perhaps during the Civil War?).
John H. Haley was recorded as having served in the 6th Missouri Cavalry (Company D) during the Civil War; we are not absolutely certain that this is that same person though the locations and dates line up very well. (This is based on research compiled up to September 10, 2014.) After the Civil War, John Henry was a Farmer - first in his native Missouri; later in Blanco County, Texas. It was in Blanco County that most of the children were born to John and Maria.
