Biography

Christian Hahn was born on 12 January 1820 in Graudenz in Pomerania, Prussia (today Grudziądz, and part of Poland).^[1] He was baptised into the Lutheran faith. ^[2] His mother was Justine Hahn. ^[2]

The young Christian Hahn arrived at Ellis Island, New York City, USA from Bremen, Germany in 20 August 1839, aged 19, on the "Bark Charlotte" (possibly the Charlotte built in Bombay in 1803). "Bark" is the US spelling of "Barque", a type of three-masted sailing ship.

At Ellis Island his occupation was recorded as baker. ^[1]

Twenty years later the 1860 US Census shows Christian Hahn's occupation as a cabinet maker, and his home as Greenville, South Carolina. At that time he was married, living with his wife Mary, and their three children, Charles, Mary and Frank.^[3]

Christian Hahn's date of death is not known.
