Biography

Obituary

Thomas Anthony Haban, born December 29, 1922, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on February 18, 2010, surrounded lovingly by his wife and nine children.

Tom graduated St. Mary’s High School in Columbus, Ohio, Class of 1941; he served three years in the U.S. Navy in World War II at Guadalcanal; he graduated from The Ohio State University, School of Music, Class of 1950 with a degree in Education. He was an accomplished musician and a music educator for almost 40 years. He was always a favorite among the students and was well liked and respected by fellow faculty members.

He liked to tell stories of being a member of the Ohio State Marching Band, “The Best Damn Band in the Land”, and remembered fondly marching in the 1949 and 1950 Rose Bowls. Tom married Patti Murtha in 1953. A former Crescent City resident, he taught at the local elementary school level from 1964–1978. He was a Colorado Springs resident for the past 31 years, retiring from Colorado Springs School District No. 11 in 1989. Tom was an active member of the Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion in Colorado Springs.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patti, and his nine beautiful children, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother in addition to numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A Catholic Funeral Mass was held Monday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, immediately followed by a fellowship in the Church community center.(Note: names of living persons removed.) [1]
