Biography

John Sobieski Gzowski was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 27, 1887^[1]. He was the son of Casimir Gzowski and Mary Bell.

At the time of the 1891 Canada Census, Casmer, Mary, Stanni, Vernon, Alex, Harold, Norman, Mary, John, and Roy Gzowski were listed as living in Toronto, along with four servants^[2].

At the time of the 1901 Canada Census, Casimir, Mary, Helen, Harold, Norman, Mare, John, Roy, and Vanda Gzowski were listed as living in Toronto, along with six servants^[3].

During World War I, he served in France from 1914 until 1917. He was present at the battles of the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele. Captain Gzowski was a member of the H.Q. Staff in 1918 until his discharge on October 1, 1918.^[4]

He married Kathleen Hughes, who died in 1935.^[5]
