Biography
Research Notes
Many popular genealogies show a line of descent in the Cheney family in which there is a Mary Gyles, second wife of John Cheney.
While numerous internet genealogies show a marriage to Mary Gyles, no credible records have been found of such a marriage, or of a son Richard, born in Kent and died in Cornwall.
No linkages are shown in the data field because persons who did not exist do not have parents, spouses or children. However, below are links to the purported family members:
Spouse: John Cheney. In fact, the records shown John Cheney married to an Elizabeth Gyles, but no second marriage to a Mary Gyles.
Son: Richard Cheney. The existence of Richard is questionable. No explanation is given for his death in Cornwall. The 1526 will of Humphrey Cheney, father of John, mentions a grandson William but not a grandson Richard.
