Biography
"William Gurley was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1665. He came with the family of Rev. Solomon Stoddard from England to Northampton, MA in 1679, at the age of 14 years. He was brought up and educated in the Stoddard home. William Gurley married Hester Ingersoll about 1684. She was the daughter of John Ingersoll and Abigail Bascom. Two sons were born to William Gurley and Hester Ingersoll: Samuel Gurley and William Gurley. His son William was not born when his father drowned accidentally in the Connecticut River on May 1, 1687, at the age of 22 years. He is reputed to have been truly pious and a sincere follower of Jesus Christ."

Removed connection to the William Gurley who died about 1750 in North Carolina. No evidence shows a relationship to the Willam Gurley referred to on this page. The name "William" could be purely coincidental.
