Nancy was born in 1839 in Newton County, Missouri.[1] She married William Poe in 1854 but he was killed in 1856.[2] She and her young daughter Mary Elizabeth Poe came across the plains with the George F. and James Miller party to California in 1857 and settled at Felty creek.[3] Nancy married Richard E. Lewis the following year. The Lewis's developed a prosperous ranch in Healdsburg and had ten children. [4] She passed away in 1896 and is buried in Oak Mound Cemetery, Healdsburg.[5]
