It is likely that John is a descendant of the family of John Gunby of Somerset, Maryland.
John is also probably the same as John Gunby who appears here in Shelby, Missouri in 1840.
In 1850 census at Linconln, Missouri John is married to a Susan, b. 1823 in Missouri].
On 11 Aug 1852 at Warren, Missouri John is married to a woman who is thought to be Emmeline Fine, daughter of Levi Fine and Nancy Oden.
By 1860 John is married to Margaret. Margaret's first husband was an Oliver. He may be the Joseph Oliver in 1850 at Montgomery, Missouri. If so, then the daughter Mary Gunby may actually have been the same as the girl born as Mary Oliver.
